Ampeli

Q&A

Short answers to the questions visitors and wineries ask us most.

What is Ampeli?

A free guide to the seven official Cyprus wine routes: the grapes, the villages, the appellations and the wineries you can visit, all on one map.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything on the site can be read without one. A free visitor account lets you mark the wineries you want to visit and the ones you have been to, rate them, and plan a route through them on your own map.

How does the rating work?

You score a winery you have visited on ten things, from 1 to 10 each: the wines, local character, the tasting, the welcome, what you learned, the setting and views, the facilities, value for money, how easy it is to visit, and food and extras. The ten scores add up to a total out of 100. Ratings are never shown publicly: you see your own, and a winery on the Premier plan sees only their number and averages, without names. Winery accounts cannot rate wineries.

How does the route planner work?

Open Plan my route (no account needed) and add wineries with its search, or press “Want to visit” on any winery page. A trip can have up to seven days, each with its own list of up to nine wineries and its own day of the week; the planner warns you about any stop that is closed or has no published hours that day. Choose where each day starts: an airport, a town, an address you type in, or your current location, which stays in your browser and is never sent to Ampeli. You can also have each day end back where it started. Ampeli puts every day in the shortest driving order it finds by straight-line distance, draws the line on the map and opens each day in Google Maps. With a free account you can save the whole plan and share it by link. Check the roads and the opening hours before you set off.

Are the opening hours and phone numbers up to date?

Each winery page says where its details come from: the winery’s own website or social media page and its Google Maps listing, with the date we checked them, or the winery itself, with the date it last updated them. Please confirm with the winery before you visit.

What are the numbered routes?

The seven wine routes set up by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, with their official numbers. The appellations (PDO and PGI) are something else: they are shown by name, never with a number, and they only partly follow the routes.

I run a winery. How do I get listed or change my page?

Register your winery. Once we have approved it and linked your account to your page, you can edit the description, contact details and opening hours, and upload photos yourself. The Basic plan is free: your winery on the map and in the route planner, your details and opening hours, a profile photo and 10 more, and ratings. Pro (€49 a month) adds one free event a month, your wine list with prices and online booking for tastings and tours. and a commission of 7% instead of 10%. Premier (€99 a month) adds two free events a month, the Premier dashboard with your statistics, and a commission of 5%.

Can wineries post their own events?

Yes. Pro includes one free event a month and Premier five; any other event costs €50. We check every event before it goes live. Each event gets its own page and appears on the Events page and the home page, and its tickets can be sold right there. Municipalities and other organisers without a winery can register as organisers and do the same.

Does Ampeli sell wine or tickets?

Not wine. Ampeli sells tickets and tastings on behalf of the wineries and organisers: you pay by card through Stripe, the money goes to the winery or organiser, and your tickets come by email with a QR code (also for Apple and Google Wallet). You can cancel for a full refund up to the deadline shown on the event, usually 48 hours before the start.

Does the site use cookies?

No advertising or tracking cookies. Visitor numbers are counted without cookies; the Cookie Policy and the Privacy Policy explain what is stored and why.

How do I delete my account?
