Morokanella grape
A native white grape that was widely planted at the start of the Ottoman period, fell into decline under heavy taxation, and was rediscovered by the oenologist Akis Zambartas.
Aromatic, rich wines with balanced acidity and medium to full body — white peach, stone fruit, quince, citrus blossom and wild flowers. Once dismissed as flabby and neutral, it shows its potential with modern winemaking and careful site selection at altitude.
One of five rediscovered Cypriot varieties singled out for quality winemaking, alongside Promara. Made as a single-variety dry white by producers including Aes Ambelis, Gerolemo and Vouni Panayia.
