Ampeli

Mavro grape

The traditional and most planted indigenous variety, still planted on almost half of the island's wine-grape vineyards; its name simply means “black”.

Fair colour density, mild acidity, restrained aroma and a light palate — table wines for drinking young. Also used in blends.

Considerable areas have been replaced in recent years with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Mataro and Grenache.
